    Dear Colleagues,

The Management Education and Development (MED) division of the Academy of Management are delighted to invite you to our next interactive video webinar.

Hosted by the Merrick School of Business at University of Baltimore, these webinars bring together academics and practitioners from around the world to discuss the latest topics in responsible management learning and education. Participants who are new to the field are most welcome and the webinar will help them get engaged and up-to-date.

We are particularly keen to involve doctoral students, junior faculty and international scholars and practitioners who may not have easy access to the Academy annual meeting. The webinar is free, and you can participate using any electronic device (computer, tablet, phone, etc.) where you install Zoom (a free app)

Title: Management Education for Management Development

     Abstract:

Twenty years of experimenting and learning, in masters programs for mid-career managers in business (impm.org) and health care (imhl.org),  have taught us a great deal about the education and development of practicing managers: how they can learn from each other, and carry that learning back to work for IMPact; how they can engage in "keynote listening", "friendly consulting", and "managerial exchanges" for their own development; how insights come from sitting in all kinds of unusual ways; and much more. We can discuss all this, plus the associated experience of working with colleagues and companies, plus, plus. This is no MBA. It is an emba, if that means engaging managers beyond administration.

Speaker: Henry Mintzberg (Cleghorn Professor of Management Studies, McGill University, Canada)

Henry Mintzberg is a writer and educator, mostly about managing originations, developing managers, and rebalancing societies (his current focus).

After working in Operational Research for the Canadian National Railways from 1961-1963, and receiving his doctorate from the MIT Sloan School of Management in 1968, he made his professional home in the Desautels Faculty of Management at McGill University in Montreal, where he sits in the Cleghorn Chair of Management Studies (half-time since the mid-1980s), with extensive stints in France and England. Universities around the world have granted him 20 honorary degrees.

Mintzberg has authored 20 books, including Managers not MBAs, Simply Managing, Rebalancing Society, and Managing the Myths of Health Care, also 180 articles plus numerous commentaries. I publish a regular TWOG (TWeet 2 blOG: @mintzberg141 to mintzberg.org/blog), a collection of which is published as Bedtime Stories for Managers (February 2019).

He co-founded the International Masters Program for Managers (impm.org) and the International Masters for Health Leadership (imhl.org) as well as a venture CoachingOurselves.com, all novel initiatives for managers to learn together from their own experience, the last in their own workplace.

Mintzberg may spend his professional life dealing with organizations, but he spends his private life escaping from them-in a canoe (where he collects beaver sculptures), up mountains, and on a bicycle. (See further details on mintzberg.org.)
