CALL FOR PROPOSALS – 2020 SPECIAL ISSUE

The Journal of Management Education, a leading voice in the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) for over 40 years, is dedicated to enhancing teaching and learning in the management and organizational disciplines. Our published articles reflect changes and developments in the conceptualization, organization, and practice of management education.

JME is accepting proposals for 2020 Special Issue consideration. The deadline for submission of proposals is October 15, 2018.

Special Issues provide an opportunity for JME to focus attention on a topical theme or particular area within management education. Special Issue editors are encouraged to consider topics and issues that are timely, provocative or multi-disciplinary. We are interested also in Special Issue proposals for topics that have been historically controversial and are deserving of fresh attention. Recent special issues have addressed Managing in Turbulent Times (JME 42:4, 2018), Introduction to Management Courses (JME 41:6, 2017), Behavioral Ethics (JME 41:4, 2017), and Women's Leadership Development Programs (JME 40:3, 2016). A themed issue on the Shadow Side of Experiential Education is in process.

    Special Issue proposals should include

Contact information, including phone, e-mail, and postal addresses of all Guest Editors.

Background information for all Guest Editors with respect to the proposed topic and previous editorial experience with JME and/or elsewhere.

500 – 1000-word overview of the proposed theme with description of 1) significant work in the domain; 2) existing gaps in our understanding of the topic; and 3) its relevance to considering management education in innovative, provocative, and creative ways.

Potential themes for authors to explore that fit within one of JME's sections (Conceptual/Theoretical/Research, Essays, Instructional Innovations, and Instructional Change in Context).

Plans for circulating a Call for Papers beyond the Call's publication in JME and on the MOBTS-L discussion listserv.

A timeline from acceptance of the Special Issue proposal including initial submission deadline, revise & resubmit processing, and final papers completion.

        A draft Call for Papers

JME's Co-Editors will work with the Guest Editors to coordinate reviewers and review processing, with all papers being reviewed by at least one JME Editorial Board member or experienced reviewer.  Guest Editors are expected to have some editorial experience, including publishing in and/or reviewing for JME, and a commitment to maintaining the developmental approach and publishing integrity of JME. Prior experience using online manuscript management systems such as ScholarOne or Manuscript Central is helpful.

Please direct all inquiries to the Co-Editors, Jeanie M. Forray and Kathy Lund Dean, at editor@mobts.org. Questions to and conversations with the Co-Editors prior to submitting a proposal is encouraged. All proposals are considered by the JME Co-Editors and Associate Editors. Special issue proposals should be submitted via Word attachment to editor@mobts.org no later than October 15, 2018.
