For the purpose of my PhD, I need to know the difference in
definitions (not just from the dictionary!) of the
    following three words:

    - Teaching

    - Educating

    - Training

    Anyone got any ideas? Thanks

Ana: Certainly not from any dictionary but my own, admittedly simple,
    thoughts:

Teaching: Passing of facts from the sender (teacher) to the recipient
    (pupil).

Educating: Process of helping others learn how to think versus what to think.

Training: Focus on passing on job- or task-related knowledge and/or skills

I have oversimplified, I know. And one does not preclude the other.

Ana, we covered this just last week. I'll only touch on the last two
    because we were looking at:
    Training
    Education
    Development

The view that I propose involves the "time factor":
Training ~ a skill is need NOW
Education ~ knowledge is needed for the FUTURE
Development ~ whole person learning for LIFE

    Just my tuppence worth.

    Alan :-)

PS: BTW, I'm in Perth, Western Australia and my doctor comes from
    Nottingham. It's a small world!!!

Ana Brankovic asked , "Anyone got any ideas?"

Part of getting a PhD is thinking about these things (Teaching, Educating,
    Training).
Instead of us doing your thinking for you, why don't you summarize your
thoughts and research to date, and then we can more appropriately make comments
    and suggestions.

There's an article in Rethinking Mgmt Education by Robert French and
Christopher Grey (Eds) that may be interesting - actually several, but the
one that touches on the diff between education and training is "Can
Managment Education be Educational?" by Thomas and Anthony.
