    (Apologies for cross-posting.)

    Hello!

Experiential learning has become a common part of many business classes, and has proven to be an effective and memorable way to allow students to apply course material.  These benefits, however, require that the exercise is designed carefully and administered effectively.  Unfortunately, many instructors have little experience in creating experiential exercises that avoid common pitfalls and provide useful learning outcomes.  Furthermore, while some areas of OB (such as negotiation) have a tremendous wealth of existing exercises to draw from, others are unrepresented in course material that is available online.

To address this limitation, we are hosting a PDW at the AoM Annual Meeting titled "Designing Experiential Classroom Exercises" which will take place from 8:00am to 10:00am on Friday, August 10th in the Sheraton Grand Chicago, Columbus A & B.  This PDW will feature a tremendous set of experts in the OB field (listed below), all of whom are decorated teachers.  During the course of this PDW, participants will:

    • receive an introduction to experiential learning by Dr. Ken Brown of the University of Iowa (15 minutes)
    • work with a small group led by a subject matter expert in creating a new experiential exercise about a particular subject within OB/HR (55 minutes)
    • receive feedback on each created exercise from a panel of experienced classroom professors, and participate in a panel discussion on lessons learned from the creation of experiential exercises (40 minutes)

Participants will have the opportunity to work with and learn from a diverse and highly experienced group of scholars and instructors:
