    Dear AOM Scholars,

We are putting together a PDW Universities on preparing Individuals with ASD for the Workforce  to submit to the 79th Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management <https://aom.org/annualmeeting/> in Boston, which will take place August 9-13, 2019, and whose theme is Understanding Inclusive Organizations.  We would appreciate the opportunity to consider your work for inclusion within that symposium.

The symposium will focus on Universities preparing Individuals with ASD for the Workforce  from both an individual and an organizational perspective. The aim of this symposium is to encourage theoretical and empirical research on the Universities preparing Individuals with ASD for the Workforce. With approximately 200,000 people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) expected to reach young adulthood in the next five years, it is imperative to research the issues associated with their transition into the world of work. Recently several high profile companies have announced efforts to actively recruit and hire individuals with autism as part of their diversity and inclusion policies, drawing attention to this emerging segment of the labor force.

It is estimated that there are 3.5 million Americans living with autism. Approximately 70% of these individuals will be unable to live independently and the cost to society of supporting each individual may exceed 3 million dollars across their lifetime. Autism Speaks estimates the unemployment rate for individuals with autism to be as high as 85%. While there are organizations that focus on the school to work transition of young adults with ASD, little is known about their job search and career experiences.

Examples of topics for this symposium may include the school to work transition of young adults on the autism spectrum, universities programs created to help individuals with ASD gain employment and prepare them for employment.

If you are interested in having your work included in this symposium submission, please send a 150-250 word abstract of your topic to ahurley@chapman.edu by December 14th, 2018.

The overall timeline is as follows:

    •December 14, 2018: Abstracts due to mailto:ahurley@chapman.edu

    • December 20, 2018: Abstract selection complete and notifications made
