    Dear Colleagues,

I'm delighted to let you know about an endowed chair available at Bucknell University for a senior faculty member. We will be conducting interviews at the Academy of Management Meetings in Chicago and will, shortly thereafter, interview candidates by phone who are not attending the Academy this year. I have posted our job ad below. If you are truly interested in innovative, effective, engaged undergraduate management education, and if you have a teaching, scholarship, and service record appropriate for a senior-level appointment, I encourage you to consider applying.

    Best regards,

    Jamie Hendry

The Freeman College of Management at Bucknell University invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track position at the associate or full professor level to be the inaugural holder of the James and Elizabeth Freeman Chair in Management.

Candidates should have an existing, meaningful program of scholarship and a plan for continuing that program into the future. The Freeman College supports both traditional scholarship and creative scholarship that transcends traditional disciplinary boundaries. We encourage applications from candidates with expertise in any of the wide array of fields relevant to the management of organizations.

Successful candidates will co-teach Management 101, Bucknell's hallmark experiential and reflective undergraduate principles-of-management course, as well as other undergraduate courses in management according to the candidate's own interests and areas of competence. The unique nature of Management 101 requires that candidates for the Chair be enthusiastic about teaching with a team of professors and undergraduate teaching assistants and be capable of engaging in intense teaching in-the-moment on a regular basis. Candidates with some background in organizational behavior and/or stakeholder management are particularly well-suited to teaching MGMT 101, but we will give full consideration to candidates with other management-related backgrounds as well. The normal teaching load at Bucknell is 5 course-credits per year: Management 101 counts as 1.5 course-credits per section, and the successful candidate will typically teach 2 sections of Management 101 in one semester, comprising 28 students per section; the candidate will teach two other courses or two sections of one other course in the other semester.

As part of the Management and Organizations Department, the Chair will also be responsible for advising students.

The Freeman College offers innovative professional education in the context of one of the nation's leading liberal arts universities. We believe that an undergraduate education that combines technical skills and deep intellectual exploration is the best preparation for thoughtful and capable leaders. The Freeman College strives to recruit faculty members, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds who bring myriad viewpoints to our community, thereby facilitating the cultivation of curiosity, open-mindedness, humility, enlightened perspectives, and other valuable traits critical for learning and growth. We seek faculty members capable of contributing to this mission through teaching, mentoring, and scholarship. Further, our faculty take seriously their responsibilities to contribute to the further development of the University and their own fields of study.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Candidates should possess a Ph.D. in management or other fields appropriate for teaching courses and conducting scholarship in management.
    • Candidates should have compiled a record of teaching excellence at the undergraduate or graduate level.
    • Candidates should demonstrate superior scholarly competency and productivity commensurate with a senior-level appointment.

    APPLICATION

Review of applications will begin on July 1, 2018. Initial interviews with selected candidates will be conducted at the Academy of Management Meetings; selected candidates not attending the Meetings will be interviewed by phone or Skype shortly thereafter. Application review will continue until the position is filled. When the Freeman College of Management determines that a candidate should be considered for an on-campus visit, the Search Committee Chair will contact that candidate to request samples of scholarship and three letters of reference. Please do not submit scholarship samples and letters of reference until requested by the Search Committee Chair.
