MED Elections Results

This is to inform my fellow MED members that our elections for 2019 have now ended. I am grateful to all who had the courage and volunteering spirit to nominate themselves or accept a nomination, to those who nominated others, and to all who voted.

This election had a surprise result, with a rare tie for one of our positions. The elections committee decided on a course of action (without knowing who the individuals or position were) and the results are below. We had a lower MED turnout than in previous years (17.35%, compared to 22.19% for the entire AOM), but it still is better than 2014, 2011, 2010, or 2006. Your participation as MED members in this process was never more essential. Our newly elected MED officers are:

Program Chair-Elect (PDW Chair): Gerard Beenen. To learn more about Gerard, visit this website: http://mihaylofaculty.fullerton.edu/sites/gbeenen/

Research Coordinator-Elect: Olga I. Ryazanova. To learn more about Olga, see this website: https://www.maynoothuniversity.ie/faculty-social-sciences/our-people/olga-ryazanova

Practitioner Liaison-Elect: Kate Elgayeva. To learn more about Kate, visit: https://lsbe.d.umn.edu/management-studies/faculty-staff/ekaterina-kate-elgayeva-phd

Membership Coordinator-Elect: Charles Fornaciari. To learn more about Charles, see: https://www.lasalle.edu/business/programs/undergraduate/management-and-leadership/our-faculty/profile/?fid=368#.XOR-UtNKjUI

Division Representative-at-Large: Martin R. Fellenz. To learn more about Martin, visit: https://www.tcd.ie/business/people/martin-fellenz.php

These generous volunteers will join the existing team of MED officers, starting August 15, 2019. They represent a wide range of experience that will add greatly to the strength and depth of the MED officer team, all of whom are working to serve our field and our members. Each of them is a committed educator in their universities, ranging in rank from Assistant Professor through to Full Professor, with teaching experiences at all levels. Having worked with them through the election process, I am also happy to report that they are deeply committed to our discipline and to our division. We are very lucky to have them!

The nominating committee worked very hard to deliver a diverse and experienced slate of candidates and I thank them specifically for their hard work. Paul Hibbert has done a great job leading us as MED Chairperson, ably supported by Kim Gower, Sabine Hoidn, and Alan Eisner, our chairpersons in the five-year sequence. Brett Paul Matherne and Tine Koehler, our elected At-Large Representatives, also supported the division in this and other functions.

As for me, having served five years in the MED leadership team has been one of the most personally and professionally fulfilling experiences of my life. I am deeply grateful for the papers and PDWs you have submitted, for the professional, timely and constructive reviews you have done, for the wealth of knowledge that you have shared during the conference and on our new connect.aom.org site or our facebook page, and for the many volunteers whose work behind the scenes made everything happen.

Most important of all, thanks to all those who stood for nomination and election, who were not on this occasion elected into an MED officer role. Without you, the membership would have had no choices to select from. Please, remain committed to the division; your hard work, education insights, and esprit de corps are very much appreciated.

I look forward to seeing you in Boston this August!!
