Research is a social process, especially when considered from a pragmatist stance.
For that reason, we organize three on-line idea- and paper development workshops within the coming months. We want to make the most of building a virtual pragmatist organization scholars' community as we are anticipating the upcoming EGOS 2021 sub-theme, hoping that our community experience in using the online formats will allow for us as peers to work collaboratively in virtually mediated ways also beyond 2021. Please join us in the workshops to co-create the kinds of virtual interactions that will be helpful to us as virtual peer community.
The purpose of the upcoming workshops is to create the opportunity for participants to present and discuss research ideas and ideas for papers (however rough at this stage) with pragmatically minded peers. Based on participants' comments from the first webinar on the 5th of October, we would like to focus the upcoming workshops on three themes:
Workshop 1. Wednesday, November 18th 2020, h1500-1630 CET: Ethics and governance in change. Are ethical values driving change or is change threatening certain ethical values, and how to organize – if possible – value representing activities in current complex societies? How may we understand the associative ethics that comes out of collective efforts of working and governing together? Big data, climate change, inequality, all can be relevant here.

Workshop 2. Wednesday, November 25th 2020, h1500-1630 CET: Self-organization and pragmatist organizational forms.
What forms of organizing and organizational forms can support a pragmatist worldview giving primacy to experience, transaction and continuity? For example, we could address what examples we can find in the past and/or what role current challenges of digitalization, climate change and inequality might play in pragmatist forms of organizing.

Workshop 3. Thursday, 3 December 2th 2020, h1500-1630 CET: Time, temporality and emergent social realities
How is our research designed and performed abiding to 'the law of the situation', and how can we work with a situation rather than merely in it? What is inclusivity in research, and where do we work with conscious group creation in the process of inquiry, and to what purposes?

In all workshops, we as convenors will be available for suggestions and comments. Also, Barbara Simpson or Philippe Lorino will be joining each workshop.
The chosen themes are not the only ones that would fit the EGOS Sub-theme 63 on Pragmatism and organizing for change. If you have other ideas for topics, and would like to organize another on-line workshop on this, please let us know.
Of course, you are still most welcome to submit a paper to the EGOS 2021 Sub-theme 63 if you choose not to participate in these virtual sessions.
Some background on our community
The Classical Pragmatists were engaged in practical initiatives for societal change, using methodologies based on experimentation, community building and participative democracy. Inclusion, social change and pluralism are critical concerns in Pragmatist inquiry, as ways of exploring and transforming complex situations. In an era where complexity abounds and struggles to address societal challenges are intensifying while at the same time the risks of fragmentation and polarization are also increasing, Pragmatism offers unique perspectives on inclusion in governance and the processes of organizing for change.
The upcoming sub-theme call for papers invites contributions that address the dimensions of inclusivity in processes of organizational change, organizing for change, and changing organizational practices from a Pragmatist perspective. We are particularly interested in papers that show and discuss the practical implications of a Pragmatist stance from methodological, empirical, and organizational perspectives.
