Organizers:

Statement and Rationale:
2019 marks the 90th birth anniversary of Alasdair MacIntyre, arguably the most influential virtue ethicist of our times. Despite having dedicated only a few of his writings to business, management, and corporations, and despite being very critical, even to the point of denying the possibility of business ethics, his ideas have proved to be fertile ground for scholarly work in professional ethics, organizational theory, management studies, and even critical political economy, besides of course in the history of philosophy and ethics.
Our panel would like to serve as a platform for presenting the most recent work on MacIntyrean contributions to virtue ethics in business, broadly construed, from the SBE community.
Following is a non-exhaustive list of areas from which we expect papers:
MacIntyre's critique of the Enlightenment and its import for Late Modern Capitalism
Applying the practice-institution distinction in the analyses of cross-functional areas of business, different jobs and kinds of work, the professions (management, in particular), organizations, strategy, economic sectors, and political bodies
Corporate ontology, psychology, and agency, with regard to the virtues and flourishing or wellbeing
Virtues and Markets within the Global Economic and Political Horizon
Teaching and Learning Virtue Ethics: the use of Narratives
