The Beedie School of Business at Simon Fraser University (SFU) in Metro Vancouver, British Columbia invites outstanding candidates for one tenure-track position in Strategy, beginning July 1, 2022. We seek candidates at all ranks: Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor. Applicants should have a PhD degree in Strategy or in a related field in Economics. We are interested in all Strategy research areas but those consistent with Beedie's Vision 2022 strategic priorities of innovation, social responsibility, and a global perspective will be prioritized. The successful candidate is expected to deliver high-quality, scholarly research, teach courses in both Strategy and Managerial Economics, and participate in our collaborative academic community through service. Qualifications for Assistant Professor: strong academic record and completion or near-completion (ABD) of academic training. There should be clear indications that the individual has the aptitudes of a successful teacher, the potential to grow in stature as a scholar, as well as a willingness to play an active role in the University.

Qualifications for Associate Professor: a record of sustained successful teaching, scholarly achievement, and participation in service to their university and the community. An important criterion is the demonstration of continued professional growth of the individual in their field(s), including recognition as an established scholar.

Qualifications for Full Professor: evidence of national or international reputation in their area of expertise. The rank of Full Professor is for those who have excelled in research and teaching and have demonstrated commitment to service contributions.

    Application Instructions

    A complete application must include:

    • a cover letter,
    • an up-to-date curriculum vitae including details of research and teaching, scholarly record, funding and list of collaborations/partnerships,
    • a research statement including a proposed program of research, two examples of scholarly work, and a description of your research alignment with or interest in SFU Beedie's vision and values and faculty members,
    • a teaching statement including evidence of teaching experience in both Strategy and Managerial Economics or a description of potential to teach the two subjects arising from one's research area or academic training, prior syllabi and teaching evaluations (if experienced), and evidence of your commitment to improving your teaching practice,
    • names and email addresses of 3 referees. SFU will contact referees directly

SFU recognizes that alternative career paths and/or career interruptions (e.g. parental leave, leave due to illness) can impact research achievements and commits to ensuring that leaves are taken into careful consideration. Candidates are encouraged to highlight how alternative paths and/or interruptions have impacted them in their application. SFU also recognizes the value of mentoring and research training, outreach, professional service, and non-traditional areas of research and/or research outputs; demonstrated experience and willingness in increasing diversity in the previous institutional environment, and in curriculum, is also an asset.

SFU is an institution whose strength is based on our shared commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Diversity is an underlying principle of our Strategic Vision, which pledges SFU to "foster a culture of inclusion and mutual respect, celebrating the diversity reflected among its students, faculty, staff, and our community." SFU is committed to ensuring that no individual is denied access to employment opportunities for reasons unrelated to ability or qualifications. Consistent with this principle, SFU will advance the interests of underrepresented members of the work force, specifically Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, racialized persons, and women; embrace gender and sexual diversity; ensure that equal opportunity is afforded to all who seek employment at the University; and treat all employees equitably. Candidates that belong to underrepresented groups are particularly encouraged to apply.

SFU encourages applications from all qualified applicants; however, Canadian citizens and permanent residents will be given priority.

Under the authority of the University Act, personal information that is required by the University for academic appointment competitions will be collected. Please see the notice from our VP Academic.
