CALL FOR PDW PARTICIPANTS

 

The purpose of this PDW is to bring together faculty members who were on the 2020-21 and 2021-22 job market to provide an inclusive, informative, and applicable session for those who are (or are soon to be) on the academic job market. This PDW is meant to facilitate a discussion to address important dimensions of the job market honestly, encourage dialogue, and increase the efficacy of participants. This will assist job candidates by providing the tools they may need to showcase the best version of themselves on the market. 

• Part 1: Presentations from faculty who were on the market during the 2020-21 cycle:
  • Application and Initial Interviews (Cameron Borgholthaus, Southern Illinois University – Edwardsville)
  • Visits, Offers, and Negotiation (Dorian Boncoeur, University of Notre Dame)
  • Transition from Student to Faculty (Danielle Gardner, Colorado State University)

• Part 2: Roundtables with individuals who were on the market during the 2021-22 and 2020-21 cycles:

1. 1. Campus/virtual visits – Sibel Ozgen (Stevens Institute of Technology)
   2. Offers & negotiation – Remy Jennings (Florida State University)
   3. Dissertation completion – Jamila S. Maxie (University of Central Arkansas)
   4. Transition to faculty – I-Heng (Ray) Wu (University of South Alabama)
   5. Career management – Steve Granger (University of Calgary)
   6. Family concerns – Viva Nsair (Western Michigan University)
   7. Mental health/support – Victoria Antin Yates (Oklahoma State University)
   8. Backup plans – Ian Mercer (Fairleigh Dickinson University)
   9. Non-US students – Zahra Heydarifard (Bryant University)

Registration is required. The deadline to register is June 25, 2021. Participants will be accepted on a rolling basis, so earlier registration is encouraged. To facilitate interaction between speakers and participants, we are limiting the number of registrants to 100.

While 2022-23 applicants will be prioritized for inclusion in this session, others who are not yet on the market are encouraged to apply to attend as information in this session is likely to be useful for mid-stage students as well.
