Embracing AI in Education: Navigating Intentions, Integrity, and Human Consciousness: Academic and Student Perspectives

In this episode I am joined by Christine Rivers and Anna Holland from the University of Surrey Business School. We discuss the integration of AI into management learning and education by exploring the nuances of intentionality, integrity, and the preservation of human consciousness. Anna and Christine highlight the opportunities and challenges presented by AI in shaping the future of learning.

Anna Holland serves as an Associate Professor in Management and Director of Learning and Teaching at Surrey Business School.  With a wealth of experience in adult learning and higher education, Anna specializes in crafting and implementing blended learning experiences across various subjects and academic levels.  Her areas of research interests are artificial intelligence in higher education, curriculum design and student learning experience.  Notably, Anna partnered with Christine Rivers to spearhead the development and execution of the Business School's online learning strategy, Active Digital Design.

Christine Rivers holds the position of Professor of Mindfulness and Management Education and Co-Head of Department for Management Education at Surrey Business School. Her research explores the intersection of mindfulness and contemplative practices with business education, technology including artificial intelligence, employability, and work-life balance. Over the years, Christine has been actively involved in shaping business and management education through various service roles outside Surrey including Associate Editor for the Journal of Management Education. She serves as Teaching and Learning Conference chair and Management Education Development program chair 2024 at AOM. For her contributions, Christine has received awards from the British Academy of Management, Management Organisational Behaviours Teaching Society and holds National Teaching Fellowship with Advance HE UK.

Dirk Lindebaum Bio

Dirk is Senior Professor at Grenoble Ecole de Management (France), and a Visiting Professor at the University of Alberta School of Business (Canada). He is curious about ‘values’ as meta-theme in his research, particularly in relation to theory building, learning, technology and emotions at work. His work regularly appears in journals of international distinction, such as the Academy of Management Review, Academy of Management Learning & Education, Journal of Management Studies, Organization Studies and Human Relations. In addition, he is the author of the book 'Emancipation through Emotion Regulation' (Edward Elgar, 2017). Despite his theoretical pursuits, the practical relevance of his research is regularly recognized in news outlets, such as the Financial Times, New York Times, BBC Radio 5 Live, Wirtschaftswoche, Daily Mail, Independent, Fortune Magazine and Bloomberg Business Week. Furthermore, he has published several practitioner-focused articles in MIT Sloan Management Review, one of which has been accepted into the Honor Roll of the Responsible Research in Business and Management network as an indication that his research serves the larger good. He currently serves as the incoming EIC at Academy of Management Learning & Education.
