    POSTGRADUATE RESEARCH DEGREE OPPORTUNITIES
    Building on its success in management education, the OUBS has developed a
    significant research capability that ensures the School's place in the major
    league of European Business Schools. Staff at the OUBS is involved in a wide
    range of research activities. OUBS research is undertaken in close
    collaboration with partner organizations in the business, public and
    non-profit sectors. As well as disseminating research results through
    publications, television, and other media, OUBS research outputs feed into
    the development of new management courses in our teaching programmes, which
    are studied by thousands of managers across Europe and beyond. In its
    commitment to the pursuit of high quality research and the expansion of its
    research student programme, the School is offering a number of studentships.
    Applications are invited from candidates wishing to study for a full-time
    PhD in this vibrant environment, which has excellent research facilities,
    and a track record that shows a commitment to the highest standards of
    research supervision. This is an opportunity to join one of Europe's leading

    The studentships are tenable from 1 October 2002 and are based at The Open
    University main campus at Milton Keynes and will normally be granted for
    four years, the first year being taken up with full-time study towards a
    master's degree in research methods. The studentships include a living
    stipend plus a bursary to support fieldwork.
    Applicants should have or expect to gain in 2002, a good honours degree or
    equivalent and preferably a master's degree in a relevant subject.
    Applicants should also demonstrate the necessary commitment with a well
    defined research proposal matching the interest of staff as described above
    (although, once registered, individuals can expect to receive support in
    developing their ideas). OUBS staff does not have research topics waiting
    for applicants.
    The School is also willing to consider candidates for part-time PhD study
    although studentships are not available on a part-time basis.
