Practitioner Corner

The objective of our Practitioner Liaison team is to,

  1. To provide support to those who have a home in both industry and academia
  2. To facilitate transitions and knowledge transfer between industry and academia
  3. To serve as the MED Division home for adjunct faculty
  4. To define the term “practitioner” for clarity particularly given how the term is understood differently, for example in the US vs other countries. This can include adjuncts, faculty of practice, lecturers, non-academic staff, etc. For the upcoming conference in Europe, we may want to be more mindful and inclusive with the term
  5. To share best practices in bringing in the practitioner perspectives in teaching given MED’s role in enhancing the effectiveness of management education (in Executive Education and in the disciplines of other AOM Divisions)

Target Audience

In line with the objective to further provide clarity given the term practitioner can differ by regions, the division sees the following as our target audience,

  • Members of industry who are keen to become involved in teaching and research (such as those with adjunct roles in academia, and those who engage through executive education
  • Members of academia who are interested in deepening their engagement with practitioners in teaching and research
  • Students who are pursuing their DBA or PhD students with industry experience
  • Non-academic staff of business schools

Practitioner PDW 2025 AOM Annual Meeting in Copenhagen, Denmark.

As management education evolves to meet the demands of a competitive job market, integrating the practitioner’s voice has never been more critical. This professional development workshop (PDW) shares best practices for involving industry experts—DBAs, adjuncts, guest speakers, and mentors—in teaching and research to create more dynamic, workforce-ready learning environments.

Participants will explore practical strategies for identifying, engaging, and collaborating with practitioners. The PDW welcomes industry professionals, executive education and adjunct faculty, academic and non-academic staff, and doctoral students with industry experience. Attendees will leave with actionable insights and resources to strengthen connections between academia and industry—benefiting students, institutions, and employers alike.

If this is of interest to you, in order to facilitate a meaningful session for participants we would truly appreciate your time to complete this brief pre-event form.
