I am a committee member for a local training and assessors network. At our
last meeting it was proposed that one of the rules be amended to allow
increased representation from one/more of the sectors/divisions

Currently this is part of the section in question
    7.0 EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

7.1 The Executive Committee shall comprise three office bearers, namely, the
Chairperson, the Secretary and the Treasurer; and four ordinary members.
Each one of the office bearers and ordinary members must be a financial
    member of the Association.

7.2 The Executive Committee shall comprise representation from:

a.. educational institutions, eg, TAFE, WEA and university

    a.. other registered training organisations

    b.. industry providers

with the distribution of membership being limited to a maximum of two from
education and two from registered training organisations.

7.3 The Executive Committee shall be elected by the members of the
Association at its Annual General Meeting. Members of the Executive
Committee shall hold office until a new Executive Committee is elected by
the Association at another general meeting.

7.4 The Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer shall be elected by the full
membership at its Annual General Meeting.

7.5 The Chairperson will have both a deliberative and a casting vote.

rule 7.2 is the one that is to be changed

how can it be done equitably, and without anyone organisation gaining an
    upper hand or manolopy

your thoughts and help are appreciated

    regards

    Myrna,
You haven't said which group you represent so I'm punting you're from the
private sector. If you aren't then your heart is definitely in the right
    place.

I take it that the idea of changing 7.2 is to enhance the input, but having
sat on over 60 committees brought together to develop/enhance our VET system
it is my opinion that having greater representation from one section, for
example, TAFE or WEA is not enhancing the input but stacking the numbers in
    favour of the publicly-funded provider.

Despite protestations that this isn't the case, representation from one TAFE
IS representation from all colleges and State systems. But representation
from one sector of private enterprise ISN'T representation of them all.
    Unfortunately not everyone sees this.

Good luck trying to maintain the status quo.
