John Orr wanted a response to his comment and here it is. He is a convert
and more power to him and PowerPoint! I have nothing against PowerPoint
(and it is not just because I fear Gates). The process of switching on
lights, raising the screen, and shutting off the projector every time I
want to write something on the board in the middle of a PP presentation
bugs me! Apart from the fact that I don't do much lecturing anyway.

I'm sure PP is very useful in life to several people. The only point I was
making was the practice of distributing a print version of the slides and
just adhering to it in the lecture. I felt it interefered with the
student's opportunity to build note-taking skills. John's point about
using the slides for a basic structure and going beyond it in the lecture
is well made and I agree.

    peace,

    gopi
