I have heard that there are new viruses that require you to
keep your anti-virus software UPDATED. Even so, the wisest
course of action is NEVER OPEN ATTACHMENTS. For example, if
and UNEXPECTED attachment comes from a friend, check with
them as to its contents before opening it is the most
conservative course of action. Attachments from strangers:
delete them and then empty your deleted items folder. Some
email programs have settings that allow you to see if there
is an attachment before opening the message (e.g., Microsoft
Outlook).
Try to send most of your information WITHIN THE MAIN MESSAGE
field to make your friends' days less hair-raising.
Update your virus protection and query the sender of any attached
file to ensure that you know what it is before opening it. The safest
way to send and receive messages is in the body of an email document.
To read the telltale features of the latest "worm" go to the publishers
of PCMagazine, ZDNet's:
http://www.zdnet.com/zdhelp/stories/main/0,5594,2776123,00.html
Indeed, I suggest you explore the ZDNet home page:
http://www.zdnet.com/ with its ratings of anti-virus software etc.
To get ahead of the speedy growth of this possible virus I am using
my entire series of mailing lists and addresses. Please forgive any
multiple posting.
