Hi
I thought it might be useful to add a user perspective on the Grant book.
I have used the last 2 editions of the book in one of two classes - a
general strategic management class (in programs where that was the only
main strategy class) and as a text for Competitive Strategy (which is
the first in a series of strategy electives). I have continued to stick
with it for over 6 years because it is the most rigorous and complete
book that is currently out. Compared to the other very popular books it
has some areas that make it harder to adopt: Basil Blackwell is not very
instructor friendly and the supporting materials are not as extensive.
But in terms of clarity, layout, structure, incorporation of relevant
research materials I have found none better. I have not yet seen the
latest edition, but expect it to maintain the same high standard as
previous texts.
All the best
