    CALL FOR PAPERS
    2nd BGSU International Management Conference
    Global Risk Management:
    Evolving Issues and Approaches
22-23 April, 2002: Hyatt Regency, Cleveland, Ohio, USA

In September 2000, the College of Business Administration at Bowling Green State University received a grant from the U.S. Department of Education to develop expertise, and provide services to industry, in the domain of ???global risk management???. This conference is the first major event being organized under the auspices of the grant.

    Conference Theme
There is a growing recognition among senior executives and consultants that risk has both a negative and a positive role in generating and sustaining shareholder value. Such an interpretation of risk reflects a holistic approach to managing risk as well as a new understanding of the relationship between well-managed risk and improved corporate performance. In this sense, global risk management is about ???seeking the upside while managing the downside of doing business abroad.???

The conference seeks to bring together business/government executives, consultants, and academics to discuss:

    1.  <x-tab>    </x-tab>The different kinds of risks that companies face in foreign markets and what they can do to <x-tab>    </x-tab>keep informed about, assess, and manage such risks.
    2.  <x-tab>    </x-tab>The downside as well as the upside of risk and its potential for generating and sustaining  <x-tab>    </x-tab>shareholder value.
    3.  <x-tab>    </x-tab>The tradeoffs between exposure to various kinds of risk, and between the downside and the <x-tab>      </x-tab>upside of risk, needed for improved corporate performance.
    4.  <x-tab>    </x-tab>Evolving approaches for establishing an integrated risk-management strategy for firms??? global <x-tab>  </x-tab>operations.

    Call for Papers
Papers should explore practical and/or empirical approaches to global risk management that are rooted in theory or actual practice. Papers may pertain to one or more of the risks companies encounter in foreign markets such as financial risk, exchange risk, political risk, economic risk, risk to intellectual property, security risk, etc. We are especially interested in papers that explore approaches to integrated risk management, explore both the upside and the downside of risk, or focus on management of risk rather than just on risk reduction.

Papers and presentations must be appropriate for a professional audience and interesting enough for an academic audience. The language of the conference is English. We are looking for 8-10 research presentations on the theme of the conference based on current and recent, unpublished research work in this area.

    Financial Support
We will cover hotel and meal expenses and conference registration fee for presenters of accepted papers (one presenter per paper). A limited amount of funds are available to partially cover the travel costs of a few presenters within the United States. If interested, please submit request for travel subsidy with a brief explanation with the paper summary.

    Submissions
Please send a 1000-word summary of your proposed research presentation as an email attachment (preferred) in Microsoft WORD by January 14, 2002 to:
