Well, I have come to a conclusion--not very profound but enough to give me
closure on the PowerPoint issue. We who teach and/or train each have a
unique style of presentation. I know I am different when I "train" and when
I "teach." I am much more facilitator when I teach, because it is usually a
class that is ongoing through an entire term. When I "train" or do a
workshop, it is for a brief period of time, a day, a week, or a weekend.
For those I feel more obligation to prepare a concise presentation, to give
information for digesting later. Even in these cases, though, I do quite a
bit of facilitating instead of lecturing. (I recognize that the word
"facilitating" may mean different behaviors to different people.) I do not
find the lecture method suits my personality (or vice versa), so I have had
to learn other ways to express myself authentically as a teacher/trainer.
So, thanks to everyone for helping me see myself clearly.
