Two thoughts on Fred comments:
1. I agree with leaders lead because it is how they accomplish their
ultimate goal or purpose. If the itch is just to lead, to lead anything,
anywhere, it will never fulfill that aspiration for leadership. A friend
years ago gave me a simple definition of leadership that I find is always
useful. I wish I knew where he got it. It goes: A leader is a Person who
Influences People to Accomplish a Purpose. Take out any one of the Ps and
there are problems.
2. As simple as that definition is, leadership really can't be reduce to
one thing. It is quite complex because it is about people relating, purpose
being pursued to that fulfillment and most importantly the person who is the
leader leading themselves to discipline their ego.
This is an important topic for our discussion.
