The secret of success in getting a great Management teaching position is no
secret. Currently every which school is interested in how you teach and
research. Research acumen you can show. But teaching! One sure way to
demonstrate an interest in and commitment to quality teaching is to
participate in the Academy of Management Management Education and
Development Division's 6th Annual Doctoral Student Management Teaching
Workshop to be held at the annual Academy meeting in TORONTO on Sunday,
August 6th, 8AM-noon. This event is open to doctoral students in all stages
of their programs. (This is not the "new doctoral students" meeting).
The workshop will involve seasoned teachers and doctoral students working
together in a collegial exchange of ideas and experiences for cutting-edge
teaching in management. Among the topics will be the transition process
from student to faculty member and the time constraints and opportunities of
    new faculty members.

All currently enrolled doctoral students are invited to attend. Applicants
need not be current MED Division members, but are required to register for
    the Academy meeting.

    This years speakers include:

Anne Huff, University of Colorado and Cranfield School of Management, UK
Julie Chesley, United States Air Force Academy

Co-facilitators: Rick Abderhalden, University of Washington, Tacoma
David Lemak, Washington State University, Tri-Cities

Please let me know by June 15th if you plan to attend,

    Collegially,
    Rick Abderhalden

Another sure way to show commitment to teaching is to attend the
annual Organizational Behavior Teaching Conference, the annual
meeting of the Organizational Behavior Teaching Society. It's
probably too late for this year, but next year the OBTC will be held
at James Madison University, June 13-16, 2001. The conference
offers reduced prices for doctoral students. You can contact me for
information on the Conference, I'd be happy to send you all the
    particulars.

The theme of the 2001 conference is "From 'Yes But' to 'Yes And':
    Collaborative Models of Management Education"
