I'm curious to know if it is common practice for Universities in the US or
in other countries to filter University internet access for students. In
other words, are there some schools who try and limit access to academic
purposes only, by filtering out such things as porno sites, hate sites,
etc... If there are some schools that use filters, what type of filter
systems do they use. Is it against the law to filter internet for adults in
your country? Does anyone know of research that has been done on this
subject? Are there statistics available that show the percentage of time or
connections dedicated to accessing sex related sites, for example?

    Thanks for your reponse

At Monterrey Tech in Mexico (at least in the Mexico City campus where I
work), there is internet filtering. I don't really know what type of
    filtering systems are used.
