What do the best professors do that enables them to help their students to
achieve such remarkable learning results? On June 21-23, 2000, at Northwestern
University, near Chicago, the Searle Center for Teaching Excellence will share
the results of a thirteen year study of the practices and thinking of some of
the best teachers in the United States. The program will include some of those
outstanding professors, including Professor Jeanette Norden, Professor of Cell
Biology at Vanderbilt and the first holder of the Endowed Chair of Teaching
Excellence, and two Charles Deering McCormick Professors of Teaching Excellence
at Northwestern University: Ann Woodworth, Professor of Theatre, and Lawrence
Pinto, Professor of Biology. Kenneth Bain, director of the Searle Center, a
professor of history, and director of the study, will also conduct sessions.
Enrollment in this institute is limited and in past years it has filled rapidly.
Tuition costs for the early bird registration (March 15) is $440, which includes
all materials, most meals, a three-day pass to recreational facilities and the
beach on Lake Michigan, and breaks.
This annual institute started in 1996 and has become an important international
forum for the exchange of ideas among leading educators from around the world.
It annually attracts some of the best college and university teachers in a
variety of
disciplines.
