I have read with great interest Fred Nickols contributions on
technology-based change and I fully agree with the general direction of his
suggested diagnostic questions for managers to ask before implementing a
change..
Fred's focus on understanding the User Community makes great sense and is
entirely consistent with his delightful web site on Communities of Practice.
My own research on project based learning has similarly found that
inattention to the diverse interests of multiple communities or stakeholders
will doom most projects to failure or at least disappointment.
Technology developers and implementers have distinctive perspectives and
biases that may not be fully in alignment with other communities
of interest who are affected by a proposed change.
Thank you again, Fred, for your thoughtful and most helpful contributions to
our MED list serv.
