Bruce:
There has been some (fairly heated) discussion of related topics on the
ONE-list. If you haven't done so already, you may want to probe there /
check those Archives.
One supply chain that seems pretty interesting to me in this respect is the
dry cleaning industry. It has a mix of large and MANY small firms, has a
global scope, with different regulations in different countries, etc.
As a comparison, may I suggest the air conditioning industry? It also has
a mix of large vendors and small local providers, directly involved parties
and scads of indirect or user-only companies, some of whom have pushed the
manufacturers very hard.
Both industries have been facing changing levels of regulation, arising
mainly from changing levels of scientific knowledge about the impacts of
their principal chemcials on the environment.
Best regards,
Tom Bryant.
