    Dear colleagues,

I am really learning from the  thread on online teaching. Thank you all who have contributed.

I have question which relates, but I don't want to hijack the thread.

It is, broadly speaking, 'is it possible to make a reasonable living as an online management educator'

    There are some sub-questions eg

    1) The online educating work I see advertising is clearly aimed at those in employment who would do this as a sideline. These are not jobs with tenure, but are (to put it broadly) piecework. Am I wrong in this ?

    2) Even on the casual/piecework basis, is it possible to earn reasonable money for the work required ?

    3) What is the work like as work, in terms of fulfilment, intrinsic reward ?

    4) Are there problems in the employment relationship one needs to look out for ?

Many thanks in anticipation of comments. I should add there is, if it isn't evident, self interest in this. I have long held a fantasy of living somewhere warmer than I am with a portfolio of online educating roles which would not be too location specific.

    1) The online educating work I see advertising is clearly aimed at those in employment who would do this as a sideline. These are not jobs with tenure, but are (to put it broadly) piecework. Am I wrong in this ? No you are correct.

    2) Even on the casual/piecework basis, is it possible to earn reasonable money for the work required ?
Do not know what you mean by "reasonable" but not equivalent to a full time tenure track position.

    3) What is the work like as work, in terms of fulfilment, intrinsic reward ? I prefer a hybrid model. I taught full time tenure track for over 30 years and retired a few years ago. I enjoyed the hybrid MBA classes I taught but HATED  teaching a fully online class. Found the students less motivated to complete work on time and more interested in an easy grade.

    4) Are there problems in the employment relationship one needs to look out for ? Not sure what you are looking for here??? Most online teaching is contract work on a semester to semester basis.

Many thanks in anticipation of comments. I should add there is, if it isn't evident, self interest in this. I have long held a fantasy of living somewhere warmer than I am with a portfolio of online educating roles which would not be too location specific.
