MG-ED-DV netters:
The Beta testing of our list is going well. I hope to be able to finish
some additional writing for the introduction to new members and then begin
to advertise our presence.
A related matter is that I have made progress in getting a website for our
archive under way and should have that up shortly.
St. John's hosts hundreds of lists and has lots of support. Most of the
lists are owned by people outside of the university so I get particularly
good support being on the faculty. Our list will be moved from one server
to another shortly. That is, all the lists are being moved to improve
service. I don't believe this will have any action implications on your
part though. I have been learning LISTSERV system commands and such during
the beta-testing period.
Privacy. I have confirmed that people might be able to use browsers such as
Alta Vista or -- I'm not sure of the term -- web robots to go through our
archives though they are not signed up. This might be done by searching for
a particular person's address or topic. Generally browsers are not picking
up material in list archives, though -- with TODAY'S technology. In any
case, assume the world will potentially see whatever you post.
Again, I know you are all antsy to get MG-ED-DV public and I will do so shortly.
Collegially,
Charlie
