I am anxious to receive comments from the members of the list
regarding the following: I am a faculty member in an Institute
that has recently moved to school status. As part of our
new governance document the faculty identified a set of values and operating
principles as part of our overall "school mission". These values include the
ideals of "bettering lives", "bridging boundaries", "fostering
change" and "civic dialogue". Now there is a move to incorporate
these values as part of the promotion and tenure process for faculty.
Many are concerned with the basis of career decisions on these
"values" and the difficulty in defining them in a meaningful,
measurable, and job related way. Any comments and suggestions would
be greatly appreciated.
