Since there have been several members posting information about themselves,
I thought I would add my background data.
I am the training manager for Livingston Enterprises location in the East
Bay are of San Francisco. Livingston is not a well known name, outside of
Internet SysOps, but our routers are used by 70%+ of all Internet Service
Providers (ISPs) in the US and a growing number internationally. The
position is challenging as I am responsible for both employee and client
training worldwide. The main challenge is in providing training in a field
that very often materials on the topics have not been written yet outside of
engineering reports/drafts (RFCs) from the Internet Engineering Taskforce
and requires working and extracting info from the people that designed the
hardware/software.
It is exciting to develop a department and program from the ground up,
including bringing a "clone" training facility in Europe with an Asia
facility planned in early 1998. Since we facilitate communications, being
able to work directly with the technology that enables telecommunications, I
am excited about the video conferrenceing and other possibilities involved
with Distance Learning. Our group also provides fee based custom training to
our clients in networking theory and design that requires a flexible and
well rounded staff that operate independently and authoritatively.
Prior to coming to Livingston I was an Assistant Professor with DeVRY in
Phoenix in the Computer Information System Bachelors program teaching adult
learners in the evening program. I also had an active consulting practice in
design, installation and maintenance of local and wide area networks.
I have enjoyed the list and look forward to seeing what evolves in 1997!
