Charlie, A caution: USA videotqapes will not run on european equipment,
they use a different standard, so forget video tapes. It is also very
expensive to have a tape converted to the European Std (About $40 I
    believe)

What the --- is this about; most everything used in the US is European or
Asiatic; the power may be 50 cycles instead of 60, but a power converter
solves that! What point am I missing? I used to sell audio and other
equip; to world buyers! K. Kemper

You're missing a lot ! There are different formats for video tapes. In
Europe most used are British PAL system and French SECAM system. Of course,
the Russians are using their own version of SECAM. None of these systems is
compatible to one another or to American NTSC.

For your information, here's the use of the systems in different East and
    Central European countries:

    Poland - PAL
    Cehia + Slovacia - SECAM
    Hungary - PAL
    Romania - PAL
    Bulgaria - SECAM

The bright side of the problem is that nowadays most video equipment (that
means video + monitor) should be able to read all standards.

So, the conclusion is that you have to check the video equipment before
    using the video tapes.
