In preparation for a presentation to our Board of Regents, I would like to hear
from colleagues who collect data similar to the following regarding their
graduating students for the purposes of comparison. This data was collected
from baccalaureate graduates during the week prior to graduation in May, 1996.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY/KEY FINDINGS
Of 660, 67% of 1996 baccalaureate graduates responding -
1. Graduate Situation May 1996 (1995)
* 73% employed and/or accepted to graduate school
? 53% employed (51%)
? 20% accepted into graduate school (19%)
? 38% not employed or accepted into grad school (40%)
2. The Use of Co-op/Internships
? 86% who participated in Co-op reported being offered employment with the
organization they had worked.
? 82% who participated in Internship reported being offered employment by the
organization they had worked.
? The average starting salary of Co-op students is 9% ($29,167) higher than the
overall average for employed 1996
graduates, $26,450 (+0.1% over 1995 figures).
3. The Necessity for Career Planning
? 81% (-4%) of respondents felt Career Planning should be required of all
students; with 96% (-3%) of those students
feeling that it should begin before the senior year.
