    5th Annual EDINEB International Conference

EDucational INnovation in Economics and Business:
Business Education for the Changing Workplace

    September 2 - 5, 1998

    MARRIOTT DOWNTOWN AT KEY CENTER
    CLEVELAND OHIO
    USA

Under the Auspices of the EDINEB Network
    ------------------------------------------
Today's companies are faced with globalization of business, rapid
technological developments and a new intensity of competition. The
availability of technology is no longer the sole key factor to success.
Strategic resources have shifted from capital to knowledge. Changing images
of work and the workplace require colleges and universities to develop new
capabilities and take a proactive orientation. Desired educational outcomes
move from development of knowledge toward the use of knowledge and from
teaching isolated skills to using skills in business contexts. The changing
workplace necessitates increased reliance on teamwork, creativity and
flexibility, decision making at the work level, continuous learning, and the
extensive use of communication and information technology. Student
preparation to function effectively in the global business community requires
change in organization structure, curricula and instruction. Changes like
those occurring in the workplace, coupled with new revelations about how
adults learn, challenge educators to consider similar shifts in the way
    learning processes are structured.

Suggested themes for paper presentations, as well as interactive workshops,
demonstrations, poster sessions, and round-table discussions, are:
    * Partnerships between business and education
    * Continuous learning, corporate education and business education
    * Management development in schools of management and business
    * Design and implementation of innovative business school programs:
action learning, experiential learning, problem-based learning
    * Development of new learning theories and constructs
    * Training students for skills development in areas of
communication, decision making, teamwork, flexibility, creativity
    * Learning outside the classroom:
    development of powerful learning environments
    * Research on instruction and cognitive development
    * Platforms for delivery of distance education
    * Staff development
    * Administrative procedures to promote innovative business
    education
    * Innovative assessment techniques and assessment center technology
    in curriculum design
    * Demonstration of value-added components via innovative learning
    platforms versus traditional approaches
    Papers
Full papers should be available at the conference. Selected papers will be
accepted for publication in the EDINEB series: Educational Innovation in
Economics and Business, Volume 5, published by Kluwer Academic Publishers.
Subsequent information regarding conference guidelines and publications will
    be forthcoming.

    6th Annual EDINEB International Conference

Teaching Today the Knowledge of Tomorrow

    June 23 - 26, 1999

The Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration
    Bergen, Norway

In the world of today, change is said to be the only constant. Knowledge
travels fast, through a variety of distribution channels, many of which were
unknown only a few years ago. Therefore, knowledge can be a highly perishable
commodity. An important objective of the dissemination of knowledge will
always be to ensure that it arrives fresh after the shortest possible route.
Academic research within the areas of business administration and economics
has often been criticized by the business community, which claims that much
of it is mainly directed at the establishment of researchers themselves, who
reply to and discuss it within the establishment instead of distributing it
to the business community. Students may often wonder whether they are
studying yesterday's knowledge, instead of being continuously updated on
current and relevant research. The proliferation of learning opportunities
(for example Technology Information) today, makes learning for tomorrow even
more complicated. In our global society, success or failure in business
frequently depends on which party has the most current knowledge of the
    issues and facts involved.
As universities and corporations attempt to prepare management to be alert to
future changes, improved, and even brand new teaching methodologies are
required. The main focus of the sixth EDINEB conference will be on the
distribution and selection of new knowledge. How can business educators
deliver new knowledge to students and the business community more rapidly
than before? How should we define the core business curriculum when new
    knowledge becomes old knowledge?

Suggested topics for paper presentations, as well as interactive workshops,
demonstrations, poster sessions, and round-table discussions, are the
    following themes:

    - partnerships between business and academic research
    - project-based, action-based and problem-based learning
    - distance education
    - technology supported learning
    - on-the-job training programs in business and economics
    - entrepreneurship programs in business-school curricula
    - selection of business curriculum contents
    - postgraduate education

    Abstracts

Abstracts (500 word maximum) should contain author(s) name(s),
title/position, institution, address, telephone, fax number, and email
address. Abstracts will be published in the official program. No author's
name may appear in more than two abstract submissions. Abstract submissions
should be received on or before November 20, 1998.
Authors will be notified of status regarding abstracts mid January 1999. Send
    abstracts (preferably by email) to:

    Email: EDINEB@FACBURFDEW.UNIMAAS.NL

    Fax: ++31 43 3213137

    Educating Knowledge Workers for Corporate
    Leadership

    7th Annual EDINEB International Conference

    June 21 - 23, 2000

At Newport Beach Marriott Hotel, Newport Beach,
    California, USA
    ---------------------------

    Creative, intellectual capital is generally
considered to be one of the greatest assets of an
organization or business firm. Companies not only
compete on quality, service and timeliness, but
also on knowledge. It is increasingly recognized
that organizations have to be effective at
creating or acquiring new knowledge and
successfully applying that knowledge to their own
activities. These demands place a high premium on
the way work is organized and knowledge workers
are selected and prepared for corporate
    leadership.

The business world is asking management schools
to deliver innovative learning systems adapted to
their specific training needs. But business
schools are facing a strain of competitive
    educational initiatives offered by corporate
    universities and business training centers.
Should they resist, react, or redefine the
    academic role for business society?

The 2000 International Conference of EDINEB
offers an exceptional opportunity to collaborate
and network with people from the academic world,
corporate training centers, and consulting firms.
The central focus on the conference theme is
    highlighted from different perspectives of
    professional training centers, business
    organizations, and business schools. EDINEB
designs a variety of session formats to provide
different platforms for learning by participants.

We welcome abstract submissions on any topic
    related to the themes below.
    * Connecting business education with the needs of
    the corporate world
    * Innovative learning systems for knowledge
    workers in business organizations
    * Identification of knowledge and skills needed
by academic graduates, knowledge workers, and
    (top)executives
    * Selection and coaching of business graduates at
    job-entry
    * Models of innovative corporate training
    * Critical appraisal of the interdependency
    between academic institutions, academic theory,
    business practice, and business organizations
    * New perspectives about producing knowledge and
    its role in business organizations
    * (Re)design of knowledge management, learning
systems, and training for corporate leadership
    * Measurement tools for learning, transfer of
    knowledge, and organizational change

The 11th EDiNEB conference is open to a discussion of broad and innovative
perspectives on cultural, economic, social, ethical, and technological
forces that affect corporate leaders and educators in their efforts to
prepare competent future leaders of the 21st century. The conference theme
has been established to clearly reflect recent changes in the global
economy, multicultural workforce, ethical dilemmas of corporate governance,
and global education practices. Professional educators and leaders of
educational programs need to appreciate and understand the impact of
globalization and recent changes in the global economy on teaching practices
and on learning platforms. As the world in which we live takes on increasing
elements of transformation, it is vital to help prepare students for ways to
adapt and learn from such dynamic changes.

The upcoming EDiNEB conference will bring exceptional learning value to
corporate leaders who continually seek new ways to improve performance of
their organizations and function more effectively on the global stage. The
11th EDiNEB conference will provide scholars, practitioners, and corporate
leaders an opportunity to share knowledge and experiences with each other in
an informal, convenient, and collaborative way, and to define new directions
