  • 1.  Non-traditional doctoral programs--Request for Info

    Posted 02-13-1997 20:50
    Hi--

Does any one on this list have knowledge about non-traditional
Ph.D. programs in management and business fields? I'm trying to assist a
working adult male who has a family with gathering info about such
resources. This gentleman works in the Chicagoland area and does not want
to give up his career position to go back to school. Hence, he seeks info
about part-time residency programs and/or distance learning programs.

What is "out there" for someone like him at this time? You can reply
privately, if you like, should this not seem like a suitable discussion
topic for this list. We greatly appreciate any help and info.

Union College, NOVA Univesity, and Walden University are all possible
answers for those of us who want to pursue Doctoral Study but can't
leave jobs/family/community to do it, and don't have a flexible doctoral
program nearby. Union is a particularly
well known program, emerging from the Union of experimenting Colleges,
and attracting a generally very interesting mix of nontraditional
adult students. There are references that may assist your advisee:
John Bear has collected information on nontradional programs and
publishes a new edition of his book every few years.

SUNY Empire State College (where I am located) has published a
directoryh of "INNOVATIVE GRADUATE PROGRAMS: Accredited American Colleges
and Universities"; SUNY Empire State College, One Union Avenue, Saratoga
Springs, NY 12866-4391 -- its heavily loaded with Master's program
but descripes some doctoral level programs.

    Hope this information is helpful.
