A few days ago, I posted too little information about the ENTREP division's
guide for adjunct faculty. Here is the correct information:
Randel S. Carlock and Jerome A. Katz (ed.) 1994 The Adjunct and New
Instructor's Guide to Teaching Entrepreneurship published by the
Entrepreneurship Division of The Academy of Management.
I got my copy through Randy's office at the Graduate School of Business,
University of St. Thomas, Minneapolis.
While the book (226 p.) was designed to meet a need in the Entrepreneurship
field, it seems pretty generic to me. Most of the challenges of teaching
one's first university course in ENTREP are just like teaching one's first
course in OB or Finance, or anything else. It is really only chapter two
(pp. 23-30) and a couple of related appendices of booklists that are
specific to ENTREP. The other chapters deal with:
1. Introduction to college teaching
3. Effective college teaching
4. Planning your course
5. Teaching and managing your course
6. Personal growth as an adjunct instructor
Appendices cover:
A. Academy of Management Code of Ethical Conduct
B. Information on Entrepreneurship Organizations
C. Suggested Syllabus Format
D. Books used in Entrepreneurship courses
E. Sample Entrepreneurship Field Research Project
F. Student Information Card
G. Sample Student Feedback Form
H. Information on Psychological Instruments
I. Inc. Magazine Exercise
J. Sample Course Evaluation
K. Instructor's Course Evaluation Form
L. Teaching Newsletters and Journals
M. Bibliography on Teaching Entrepreneurship
N. Successes and Failures of Teaching Experimentation
I continue to find it valuable.
Best,
Tom Bryant.
