Check out Meredith Belbin's work on team roles. Published by Heinemann
in the UK I think there are three books now.

The work is based on 30 years of research with managers and leaders in
all sorts of industries, organisations and cultures. I have found it
readily accepted in public and private sectors, in developed and
developing countries.
I know it has been used successfully in selection work.
