Good morning, Listers.
Three issues I wanted to discuss today:
1. I am preparing a second year undergraduate course on Training &
Development for teaching in the Semester 2 (starting in mid-July).
This is the first time MIT (Manukau Institute of Technology in New
Zealand - not the other one!) has run this course, so I will be
looking to improve it as the years go by. In other courses, we have
been relatively conservative with assessment, asking students to
complete essays or seminars (group or individual), and sit tests and
examinations. This time, I would like to be a little more innovative.
A reflective journal that I am trialling on a current OB course
seems to be going well, but I won't know until this is assessed in
June, (too late for my planning for the T&D course). Have other had
any success with practicuums in this area? If so, how are they run?
What other sorts of interesting and most importantly, useful,
assessments are used?
Secondly, I am hunting for current articles from the management and
education journals which would be appropriate for this level
(remember, they are only in the second year of an undergrad. degree).
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
2. Thanks to those of you who sent me information about the different
academic terminiology. The term professor or assistant professor
sounds far better than "lecturer". :)
3. The list is very quiet again. Why the drop-off in traffic? Is it
time to refocus?
