Do you know any doctoral students who are at the beginning of their
teaching careers? If so, please pass along this announcement.

The Management Education and Development Division of the Academy of
Management sponsors a doctoral consortium on teaching each year. It is
designed to help doctoral students improve their teaching effectiveness.
Participants will hear from master educators, discuss a variety of
teaching issues and meet other doctoral students interested in teaching.
    Discussion topics include:

    Creating an effective learning environment
Developing learning objectives and grading criteria
Using writing assignments and service projects to teach
Managing difficult students in the classroom
    Teaching large lecture sections
    Designing a course syllabus
Preparing for class efficiently and effectively
Using information technology in the classroom
Giving feedback on exams and assignments
    Improving your students' class contribution

The MED Doctoral Consortium will be held from 12:30 to 6:30 pm on
Saturday, August 9 at the Academy of Management Annual Meeting in Boston,
    Massachusetts.

Facilitators include Steven Cady (Bowling Green), George Dodge (Texas
Tech), Patricia Fandt (U of Washington Tacoma), Ted Herbert (Rollins
College), Gordon Meyer (Canisius College), Jill Purdy (U of Washington
Tacoma), and David Van Fleet (Arizona State West).

The Consortium is open to all doctoral students who are at the beginning
of their teaching careers. You need not be an MED division member to
attend. You must pre-register to attend, but there is no registration
fee. Refreshments and teaching materials will be provided by the MED
