  • 1.  Evaluating Leadership Development Efforts

I am a Ph.D. student in I/O psychology, and I'm currently doing an
internship in the evaluation group at the Center for Creative
Leadership. One of the projects with which I'm involved is the
enhancement of the Center's system(s) for evaluating the
impact/effectiveness of its leadership development programs.

I would very much like to hear from anyone who has experience in this
area, regarding the methods you use to evaluate leadership development
efforts. I would also be grateful for any references or pointers to
resources that might be useful on this project.

    Thanks in advance,

Bart: You might find it useful to review an article by my colleague,
Glenn McEvoy, and myself that appeared in the August 1990 issue of
Training and Development. It discusses various approaches to
training evaluation depending upon the goals of training. Also,
Glenn McEvoy has been involved in a number of efforts to evaluate
management development programs. He can be reached at Utah State
University, College of Business, Logan, Utah, 84322.
