FORUM - Empire State College
CALL FOR PAPERS -- Management Development Forum (MDF)
The theme of our next issue is: Developing and measuring
leadership competencies. We welcome papers on the subjects
of assessing managerial competence, competency development,
skill building, competency profiles for leadership, measuring
leadership effectiveness, linking business strategy with
leadership development, and using competencies in HR
systems to identify and develop effective leaders.
MDF is published twice a year by the FORUM program at the
State University of New York's Empire State College. This publication
is distributed to human resource professionals, trainers, and consultants
engaged in management development and education.
The objective of this journal is to stimulate innovative thinking, share
new developments and ideas, and report on new techniques and
intervention programs relevant to managers. MDF serves as a pool for
new theory and practical knowledge that will support human resource
professionals seeking to enhance management training, education, and
development in their organizations.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Please send two copies of your submission. Submissions should be
no more than 4,000 words. On the first page, include the author's
name, position, address, phone number, and e-mail address.
If your article is accepted, you will be asked to send your
manuscript on an IBM-compatible diskette, accompanied
by two printouts, in Word for Windows. If you cannot provide a
Word for Windows document, an ASCII format is also
acceptable.
WRITING STYLE
The body of the article should flow logically and smoothly. Avoid
jargon and technical terms. If you must use them, define them.
Spell out abbreviations on the first use. Our style and tone are
journalistic rather than academic. It is very important to balance
discussion of theory and practice in the article.
No references are needed for ideas paraphrased rather than
quoted, or for widely known information, such as the fact
that downsizing is a strategy used by many large scale
organizations. When references are necessary, incorporate them
into the text. Do not use footnotes. A short list of resources
(3-5 items) can be included at the end of the article under
"suggested readings." Please use APA style.
EDITORIAL CRITERIA
All manuscripts are subject to our review process. The Management
Development Forum will notify you when its editorial board has
made a decision. We will not return manuscripts. Authors will
be consulted about suggested revisions prior to publication,
although we reserve the right to make minor changes. Manuscript
submission implies agreement with this policy.
The Management Development Forum cannot pay for manuscripts,
but two complimentary copies will be provided to published authors.
Management Development Forum selection criteria are based on the
following:
Style -- Does the information or ideas flow smoothly in a journalistic,
reporting tone?
Audience appeal -- Does the article capture HR professionals' interest
in promoting broad management development and effectiveness? Is it
current, relevant and useful? Does it tell the reader how to be more
successful at work? Is the approach discussed in the article grounded
in theory?
New thinking -- Does the article stimulate innovative thinking and the
development of new insights? Promote new ideas?
To submit an article, please send two copies of your manuscript to:
