The Johari Window is a model to describe self-disclosure in communication.

    The four "panes" are
Open pane (free to self and others)
Blind pane (Blind to self, Seen by others)
Hidden pane (Open to self, Hidden to others)
Unknown pane (Unknown to self, Unknown to others)

The size of the "panes" can vary based upon factors like trust, but can
also include time of association, time of observation, etc. I like to
point out that using this model there are totally "honest" communication
is to be highly suspect. A difficult concept for "teenagers in love" to
    comprehend. ;]

The Window does not indicate what to discuss or when. IMHO, those issues
are better determined by Knapp's 10 stage model for interpersonal
    relationships.

    Dutch,

You forgot the fifth pane of the Johari Window: the pane in the a**
(polishes own window and throws stones at others).
