Hi,
I've just read your message and would like to offer the following:
The work I've done with 'unprivileged groups' leads me to believe that
they can offer us (the so called privileged) some very good lessons in
learning. True faciliatory learning is what they've been practising for
many thousands of years. I learned this lesson from a group of island
people who pre-date spears and knives - in fact modern to them meant the
club!!!
Anyway, I hope that my most helpful answer is to your second question.
We've recently developed an internet based software package that allows
people to self-assess, and also be assessed by professional assessors,
advisors and mentors, against learning outcomes and skills standards (SA
is just starting to get heavily involved in these through the Depts of
Labour and Education). It is working very well. In fact we are one of
the first in the world to offer fully competency-based training and
assessment over the Internet. The final bugs aren't out of it yet so I
can't whip you off a copy to look at but get back in touch if you are
interested in this when we are ready for full launch. We hope to bring
it to SA either through our own channels or through those of the New
Zealanders we know are very active over there.
Regards
