Leon Levitt <levitt@DHOL.com> suggests that we invite
some of the experts that will be speaking at a University of
Michigan conference (reportedly limited to their faculty and staff)
on "Copyright and Fair Use: What You Need to Know to Keep
Out of Trouble," (which they will have on October 10th).
    The speakers include:
Kenneth Crews, Director of the Copyright Management Center and
professor of Law and Library Science, Indiana-Purdue U. at Indianapolis,
and minority counsel for the Intellectual Property Subcommittee of the
HR Judiciary Committee, Stephanie Peters. UM will be holding
workshops on coursepacks, the Web, Faculty Publishing and Contracts,
    etc.

i second the selection of kenny crews. if you are not familiar with his
work, i would like to suggest that you check out the following urls:

    crews' homepage:

    http://www.iupui.edu/it/iuilaw/crews.html

    and

the copyright management center (which has several research papers related
to copyright and educational use that might be of interest to members of
    this list):

not only is he well versed on all aspects of copyright and fair use, but
he's refreshingly enthusiastic about an otherwise dull topic. Plus, he has
a wonderful sense of humor that shows through, even on line. great pick!!!
