    Gayle's report on the projects she assigns her OB was very
    stimulating. Therefore, I would like to continue this thread by
    asking you to post a description of a successful project,
    experiental exercise, etc. that you use in your teaching.

    This is an assignment I use in a 27hour Managers and Information Systems
    course on the MBA(IT&Management).

    The students, working in 2s or 3s, are required to find an information
    need in a company or organisation and broadly specify an Information
    system to meet the need. If an IT system is not appropriate - then they go
    looking for another need!

    They are required to give a brief outline of the system, using business
    English terminology only and no technical terms.

    The questions they specifically have to answer are;
    what is the purpose of the system?
    what business need does it meet?
    what are the benefits for stakeholder?
    how they set about the task of determining requirements
    what techniques they used to understand the business problem
    how they might communicate with and involve the stakeholders
    which aspects of the work went well and
    which things they would do differently next time
    what are the impacts on other parts of the business
    how the implementation is to be effected;
    I usually phrase this - how would you ensure that the expected
    benefits are achieved and the unexpected ones identified.

    I put a limit on the number of words in their response.
