Hello Barbara,
I just wanted to say that your posting here on AOM caught my eye. It
conveyed "sparkle," imagination, faith, and hope. I clipped a portion of it
and saved in an archive of neat stuff I keep. I noticed that you'll
probably spark some debate. I'm too weary right now to jump too far into
the fray, but wanted to thank you. Postings on the various lists can tend
to get a little stuffy and suspicious of the seemingly magical things that
can occur in learning fields.
As for myself, I'm not sure how much real choice we have in information, but
what I believe is that we can get to it faster and come closer to
understanding systemic cause and effect -- circular causality. There is a
greater potential for real-time incidental learning -- for unimagined
connections. If one spends enough time on the internet, one might see
repeating patterns of information that at first glance appear to be new
information, yet turn out to be essentially the same information reframed
slightly. But we can see it quicker and hold more of it simultaneously in
our consciousness -- a dialogue of sorts with ourselves. And perhaps the
reframing helps reach people.
Here's a couple of things that seem relevant. A few years ago a writer by
the name of Christopher Locke wondered whether the world could begin to
think together in real time. He wondered whether there could be thought
patterns enabled by the internet similar to the patterns in the human mind
-- patterns that are spatially similar yet locality independent.
The other thought came from a book I scanned (but have forgotten the title)
written 5-10 years ago. The writer noticed that since the global population
is increasing non-linearly, 25-30% of all the people who have ever lived on
this planet are now alive at once -- together -- possibly connected.
I'm not sure what that all means, but it is mind boggling to contemplate.
Maybe it means that mankind's imagination to good or to do evil has been
enhanced and accelerated?
All said and done however, I have to believe that the hard work is much the
same as it has always been. Finding our own true center through personal
growth and mastery, and working hard to live interdependently and in-service
to one another.
Thanks,
John Dicus
