Harry,
You more closely described the business world...where people
tolerate the slackers and complain behind their back...and that
too is a problem. WE are working very hard to get people to own
those opinions and to share them.
Often, I have found that misperception is a big part of
slacking...as you pointed out - a real example - One team was
angry that a member was missing a LOT OF MEETINGS. They wanted me
to confront him. I chose to collect data first and did an
attendance evaluation over 9 weeks...guess what - he missed none
of the first 6 weeks and 30% of the last three - why? HE is a
supervisor and our production went up. He is putting in 70 hours
a week. Three other team members had lower overall attendance.
Now the team has no issue with attendance and instead wanted to
change our meeting times to be more convenient to him!
Someone on the net once said, " We judge others by their behavior
and ourselves by our intentions" This is so true. IF people
would deal more with perception they might learn something.
So glad to hear that there is a lot more behind what you are
doing, than what I was reading.
Thanks,
Rick Corcoran
