The No Electronic Theft Act was signed into law Dec. 16 in the USA.
This was cheered by the Amercican software and entertainment industries.
However, Internet users and the academic community fear the broad
wording of the law puts the free exchange of ideas in jeopardy.
How will the NET act affect the climate in cyberspace?
How can the law be enforced?
Is linking co-opting or promotion?
An excellent examination and discussion of these issues is
on the New York Times website currently.
To locate it try to go directly to:
CyberTimes Coverage of Copyright Issues
http://forums.nytimes.com/webin/WebX?13@@.eea61ca
or if that doesn't work you might have to enter through the main
New York Times gateway
http://www.nytimes.com/
Then click on In CyberTimes
Then go down to last item in the left column
"Copyright on the Internet" and click on that.
