I haven???t been around for a while and thought I would reintroduce myself to
the list. As you can see from my id at the end, my interest in the list is
from a practitioner standpoint. Our organization is 1600 people involved
in the processing of payloads for the space shuttle and elements of the
upcoming space station. We currently don???t have a management development
program and I am examining ways to introduce one. Management development
programs are also the base of my dissertation for an Ed.D. from Nova
    Southeastern.

My question. I am looking for some research material on management
development programs. I have numerous journal articles but am having some
trouble finding quality text. I have several texts by Caffarella, Kazanas,
Merrian, some others, and am waiting for the publication of Burgoyne???s
Management Learning. Are there any suggestions on other texts or authors
who deal with management learning and management development programs.
This seems like the ideal place to ask this question. Thanks for any help
    or suggestions.

I look forward to following along on the discussions and providing whatever
    input I can.

Ken Stein wrote that he is:
"waiting for the publication of Burgoynes Management Learning."

For those mg-ed-dv-ers whose interest has been peaked:
Management Learning: Integrating Perspectives in Theory and Practice
edited by John Burgoyne and Michael Reynolds.
Sage, paperback: ISBN: 0803976445; list: $29.95.
hard cover: ISBN: 0803976437; list $85.00.
I believe that Ken is correct in saying that this is not out yet.

    Ken

I would like to suggest that you don't forget the wisdom contained within
your organization. Why not make part of your management development class
identifying high performing managers within your company and interviewing
them to determine what they do that makes them such great managers?

This would allow you to create a model of great management within your
specific organizational culture. If you got each class member to ask five
respected friends to name five top performing managers within your company
and then merged their lists identifying the people who were most often
mentioned you would instantly have the list of people to be interviewed.
