The contributions on the nature of work have all been interesting. My
thoughts on this stem far back beyond getting a BA and MOD at midlife...it
goes to when I was making contributions that were valued-added to the
organization but because of not having status and power the rewards and
recognition were received by those above. I would suggest that it goes beyond
a sense of accomplishment (although I agree that is a part of the mentioned
complexity)...that wanting to see that what we do matters...that we are
contributing to something that is worthwhile to self and others is important.
I would suggest that a *sense of significance* in that what we do at work
contributes ...that if we aren't doing it, it matters (ties to previously
mentioned competency, the need to make decisions about our own work, and being
challenged/challenging others) is basic to the meanings and nature of the work
we do--or how hard we work to do it.
