ACADEMY OF BUSINESS & ADMINISTRATIVE SCIENCES

    Presents

    1998 International Conference
    http://www.muohio.edu/~rajkumtm/abas/

    Program Theme: Emerging Economies

    Hosted by
    Budapest University of Economic Sciences

    Budapest, Hungary
    July 13-15, 1998

    ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

On the eve of the twenty-first century, the global economy is undergoing sweeping
changes characterized by a complex and fast-paced business environment--full of
opportunities, but also pitted with challenges, risks, and dilemmas. Much of this
growth and potential lies in emerging economies that are outside of traditional
powerhouses. In 1996 the GDP (Gross Domestic Product) growth rates in emerging
economies averaged three times that of Triad nations and predictions are that these
economies will capture 50% of the world GDP soon. This unprecedented surge in free
market ideology all over the world is changing the organizational, political,
economic, and social structures of all countries--with stakes higher than anyone
could have imagined for both the developed and developing economies.

Thus the 1998 International Conference of the Academy of Business and Administrative
Sciences will focus on Emerging Economies. This conference will bring together
leaders from business, government, and academia from all over the world--both the
developed and developing economies--to discuss and share ideas and to work together
to meet the challenges of the emerging world order.

    CONFERENCE VENUE
The conference will be hosted by the Budapest University of Economic
Sciences--Budapesti Kozgazdasagtudomanyi Egyetem (BKE), one of Hungary's oldest
premier educational institutions. The university, located in the center of
Budapest, is a major center of teaching and research, comprising four faculties:
Business, Economics, Social Science, and International Studies. The university
enjoys extensive linkages and partnerships with other major universities as well as
businesses and industries. The conference will take place in the main Auditorium and
the different lecture halls of the university.

    CONFERENCE LANGUAGE
The conference will be conducted in English.

following areas. Related topics in line with the theme of the conference will also
    be considered.

    speaker.
Panel symposia are three or more related presentations by different speakers and must

significant experiential component, a workshop proposal would be appropriate.

    ABOUT BUDAPEST, HUNGARY
Budapest is considered by many to be one of the finest, most vibrant cities of

Europe. It will surprise you at every corner, because this city of 2.2 million
people stands for a lot more than being the Capital of Hungary. It is a grand icon
of the past and a modern metropolis, a treasure house filled with over 2000 years of
history mixed with an array of cultures and riveting events. Your visit will enable
you to see why Budapest is the ultimate, proud descendent of the Magyar tribes who
founded Hungary nearly 1.100 years ago, as well as to discover the city's strong
influences from when the Romans settled in the area; from Turkish domination during
the 16th and 17th centuries; and from the days when Austria's Habsburg dynasty ruled
the Austro-Hungarian Empire. You will also experience the Budapest that continues to
make history today: a thriving international center of business, culture and
politics; a growing city with hometown charm that, together with its illustrious
past, makes the city worthy of comparison with other great European capitals.

Surveying Budapest from the embankments of the bastions of Castle Hill, one can
readily see why the city was dubbed the "Pearl of the Danube." Its grand buildings
and sweeping bridges look magnificent, especially when illuminated by night. The
inner-city and radial boulevards combine brash commercialism with a fin-de-siecle
sophistication, while a distinctively Hungarian character is highlighted by the
sounds and appearance of the Magyar language at every turn.

    TRAVELING TO BUDAPEST
Budapest is easily accessible from all over the world by plane, train, or car. It
has two airports, only 20 km from the historic city center. The airport has direct
access to the city center by bus or taxi. There is a special minibus service by LRI
(Airport Directorate), which offers airport to city transportation for a reasonable
price (about US$8). Taxi service is available for about US$ 15.

    CLIMATE
The climate in Hungary is temperate continental; visitors may enjoy a beautiful warm
and sunny weather in July with an average temperature of 21 degrees Celsius.
Evenings are warm bright until 8:30 PM.

    PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
Public transport in Budapest is very well organized; you can reach any point in the
city by bus, train, trolleybus or metro within a short period of time.

    TRAVEL AGENCY
The official travel agency for the conference is
    Pannonia Tourist Service
    Rakoczi ut 9
    H-1088 Budapest

    Phone: 36-1-138 4225 [or] 36-1-266 8281
    Fax: 36-1-138 4258 [or] 36-1-266 1261

Budapest has a range of other hotels catering to virtually every budget. Pannonia
Tourist Service has negotiated block reservations at special conference rates at four
superior first class to first class hotels. Prices range from US $81 to $116 per
double room per night inclusive of breakfast, service charges and VAT. Single room
rates range from US$ 68 to 96. All the four hotels are centrally located with easy
    access to the conference site.

Pannonia Tourist Service will also arrange a number of pre- and post- conference
tours for the conference delegates. Hotel Reservation and Excursion forms with
detailed information will be mailed to participants upon receipt and acceptance of
Abstract Submission form. Participants can make their hotel and tour reservations
directly by fax or mail to Pannonia Tourist Service using the forms provided. Please
note that July is an extremely busy season in Budapest and it is necessary to
